Virtual Club Meeting: September 19, 2024

Join us for our regularly scheduled virtual meeting this month on Thursday, September 19 at 6:30pm. This will be our absolute last-chance endorsement meeting -- and club meetings -- prior to the November 5th Presidential Election.

For endorsement considerations, we will vote on uncontested friendly incumbents Tony Kranz for Encinitas Mayor, Eric Ortega for Bonsall Unified Area E, and Oscar Caralampio for Fallbrook Union High School District Area 4.

We'll also consider endorsements for uncontested Democratic candidates running for Palomar College Area 4, Del Mar Union School Board (short-term seat), and a short-term seat on the Calexico City Council.

Harris-Walz: San Diego Merch & Volunteer Opportunities

It's GO time! Join us as we work together to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz this November! You can sign-up to volunteer with the national campaign on their website here.

Since we are an LGBTQ+ Democratic club, their Out for Harris campaign has opportunities to volunteer here.

Also, our local San Diego County Democratic Party may have merch and swag at their office in Kearny Mesa.

Special Virtual Meeting: August 29, 2024

Join us for a special endorsement meeting on Thursday, August 29 at 6:30pm. This will be our last endorsement meeting for races to consider that will be on the ballot this November!

This meeting will be a week after our 2024 Democratic National Convention, and we'll have some of our club members who were delegates recap the highlights of their time in Chicago.

Virtual Club Meeting: August 15, 2024

Join us for our regularly scheduled virtual club meeting on Thursday, August 15 at 6:30pm.

With the California Democratic Party having endorsed and made recommendations for statewide ballot measures, we will consider adopting the party's recommendations. You can view the party's positions here.

For President & Vice President: Kamala Harris & Tim Walz

At a special meeting earlier tonight, our San Diego Democrats for Equality members unanimously endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris & Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to be our next President and Vice President of the United States.

What a year the last couple of weeks have been!

Earlier this week, Kamala Harris was certified as our Democratic nominee for President, and she tapped Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

The excitement around our Democratic ticket and the energy to win in November is off the charts. People are fired up and ready to go!

Special Virtual Meeting: August 8, 2024

People are fired up and ready to go!

A number of club members reached out and asked for a special meeting to re-consider our presidential endorsement.

So, please join us on Thursday, August 8th at 6:30pm for a special virtual endorsement meeting for us to formally consider an endorsement for Kamala Harris for President and her running mate as our next Vice President.

We are also excited to have confirmed as a guest speaker, Sam Alleman, the LGBTQ+ Engagement Director for Harris for President campaign.

We will also hear from Shay Franco-Clausen, Co-Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party's LGBTQ Caucus, who will present on statewide efforts to support the Harris campaign and down ballot races.

This is a great opportunity for those interested to hear directly from the campaign how our club members can help and be active going into November.

Special Virtual Meeting: July 7, 2024

Join us for a special virtual meeting on Sunday, July 7th at 12:00pm.

We will consider two out-of-town endorsements for spectacular LGBTQ+ Democratic candidates!

First, we will consider endorsing Sarah McBride who is running to become the first openly transgender member of Congress in Delaware! Sarah McBride is currently a State Senator in Delaware and was the first openly transgender speaker to address a political national convention when she spoke at the 2016 DNC Convention.

Then, we will consider an endorsement for Evan Low, our California Democratic Party's endorsed candidate for Congress in the 16th Congressional District. Evan Low is currently an Assemblymember and was the youngest openly LGBTQ mayor in the country when he became Mayor of Campbell, CA at the age of 26.

Locally, we will officially consider an endorsement for Oceanside City Council District 4, and the second at-large La Mesa City Council seat.

Happy Pride Month! You know what that means...

It is time to renew your club membership -- and, if you aren't a member, then sign-up and join on our website at: democratsforequality.org/membership!

All of our club memberships expire on June 30th, so let's make sure we get y'all renewed!

As a way to connect and celebrate our membership renewals, we will host a Sunday Funday Membership Renewal Party on Sunday, June 30th starting at 1:00pm at AWOL in Hillcrest! Address is 1469 University Ave., San Diego, CA 92103. There will be a taco truck on-site and drinks can be purchased at the bar.

Virtual Club Meeting: June 20, 2024

With the Presidential Election quickly approaching, we cannot forget that control of the U.S. Senate is up for grabs. While President Biden and Congressmember Adam Schiff should be secure in their election bids here in California, our club can have an impact in other high-profile races across the country.

Therefore, we will consider formally endorsing three of those U.S. Senate candidates: openly LGBTQ+ Senator Tammy Baldwin (Wisconsin), and LGBTQ+ community allies Senator Jacky Rosen (Nevada) and neighboring Senate candidate Congressmember Ruben Gallego (Arizona). We've reached out to their campaigns to ask for campaign representatives to attend. Either way, each of their races are critically important, and to the extent that we can best assist we should move forward to officially support them.

Special Virtual Meeting: May 30, 2024

Join us for a special virtual meeting on Thursday, May 30th at 6:30pm.

We will consider friendly incumbent endorsements for Ross Pike for re-election to Fallbrook Community Planning Board and Yajaira Preciado for re-election to Lemon Grove School Board. We will also consider an early endorsement for Senate District 40.

Then, we will hear three presentations:

• Rallying for Postal Workers - Across the country, and here locally, we are hearing about proposed devastating cuts and a rollback in services at our local post offices. Bob Waterhouse with the American Postal Workers Union will give us an update on how these proposed cuts are affecting us locally, how it affects postal workers, and what we can do to rally in solidarity.
• Assembly Constitutional Amendment 8 - Passed in the Assembly last year and currently in the Senate, ACA 8 would remove slavery in any form from the California State Constitution. Michelle Krug is working to arrange a speaker to provide more information for us. After the presentation, we will consider endorsing ACA 8. For information on ACA 8, you can read the proposed language here.
• Let's Go San Diego - Cori Schumacher with IBEW Local 569 will present on Let's Go San Diego, a ballot initiative that qualified for the November 2024 election, which will provide ongoing funding for transportation, infrastructure, and safety-projects. After the presentation, we will consider endorsing the ballot measure.
