Hybrid Club Meeting: August 20, 2026

As summer season winds down, it's time to kick back into gear as the November 3rd election inches closer.

Join us for our next hybrid club meeting on Thursday, August 20th at 6:30pm.

We'll be meeting in-person at R Place in Hillcrest, and for those who can't attend in-person, you are more than welcome to join on Zoom at democratsforequality.org/zoom

You can check out the meeting agenda at: democratsforequality.org/agenda

Since we've been off for a month, the California Democratic Party recently voted on their official recommendations for the statewide propositions. At our August 20th meeting, we will consider voting on a consent calendar of the recommended slate of propositions as endorsed by the CDP.

If you'd like to learn more about all the statewide propositions, you can read up on them at the California Secretary of State's website here. Also, Ballotpedia is often a good source to find endorsements, polling, and financial data for all the propositions.

We will consider a friendly incumbent endorsement for Vista Councilmember Corinna Contreras, and we'll consider endorsements for Vista Mayor and Imperial Beach Mayor.

Finally, we will also hold a special election to fill the South Area Director position on our club's executive board, and as president of this club, I would like us to consider adopting an anti-fossil fuel contributions and donations pledge... something to the effect of the following language:

San Diego Democrats for Equality shall not accept contributions, donations, or event sponsorships from fossil fuel companies or their corporate political action committees, consistent with our club's commitment to environmental justice and action on climate change.

Just to be clear: thanks to our outstanding club leadership over the last number of years, I do not believe we've had issues with this, but this was a commitment and a pledge I wanted to bring forward to the club membership so that we can formally vote on this policy.

There's a lot going on at our next meeting and we hope to get through this quick and efficiently.

Let's get to work!

Ryan Darsey (he/him/his)
President
San Diego Democrats for Equality
