With the results of Tuesday's special election for County Supervisor District 4 coming into focus, we want to congratulate both Democratic candidates for their spirited campaigns.
While no candidate pulled over 50%, there will now be a run-off election on November 7th and the choices couldn't be more different.
That's why we are calling a special endorsement meeting to be held (virtually) on Thursday, August 31 at 6:30pm to consider consolidating our support behind Monica Montgomery Steppe.

Thank you to our club members who marched with our contingent including Congresswoman Sara Jacobs, staff from Congressman Scott Peters' office, members from Equality California, and our endorsed candidate for County Supervisor, Janessa Goldbeck.
As we continue to organize out of the post-pandemic doldrums we are planning to be back into the full swing of things next Pride with a booth.

With a heavy heart, we sadly inform you about the passing this week of Coyote Moon, a longtime member who served on our club's executive board for several years.
She was a trailblazer as much as she was a troublemaker in all the best ways. Uncompromising in her values, not afraid to speak her mind, and fearless in spirit.
We hope you are all having a safe and enjoyable Pride Month!

With today being the last day of May, and before we kick off festivities for Pride Month, I wanted to take an opportunity to recognize Mental Health Awareness Month.
Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed during the month of May throughout our country since 1949 as a way to raise awareness about mental health. It's a way for individuals who fight and struggle through mental health issues to find support and to help educate others.
There is absolutely a need to advocate for those policies that can help the millions who find themselves in a never-ending battle against anxiety, depression, loneliness, self-doubt, self-worth, and other afflictions.
That's why I want you to be aware... that I am not a stranger to this struggle.
Last night, members of our club's executive board formally accepted the honor of being named Democratic Club of the Year by the San Diego County Democratic Party.

Good Evening, Democrats!
First off, thank you to our amazing Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins for that introduction.
Join us for our upcoming club meeting on Thursday, April 20th at 6:30pm.
We will be considering friendly incumbent endorsements for our elected leaders who are running for re-election who serve in our education space. The incumbents we'll be considering include the races that will be up for election in the March 2024 Primary, including: County Board of Education, San Diego Community College, Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College, and San Diego Unified.
We will also consider an endorsement for the open San Diego City Attorney race, and consider Unacceptable Ratings for Lori Saldaña and Daniel Smiechowski.
Today, our San Diego County Democratic Party's Council of Clubs, a consortium of all the democratic clubs in San Diego County, voted to name name San Diego Democrats for Equality as the 2023 Democratic Club of the Year!
This is an amazing honor, and it speaks to the incredible, inspiring work that every single one of our members put in this last year to be successful.

We will consider a Bylaws amendment to cap our endorsement considerations to no fewer than 2 months before an election. Also, we will consider an endorsement for State Senate District 39, and consider a formal resolution calling on convicted wife-beating slumlord Mike Schaefer to resign from the Board of Equalization.
