Special Virtual Meeting: Endorsementcito

Please join us for a special virtual Endorsementcito meeting on Sunday, March 1st at 1:00pm.

We will consider an endorsement for the following races:

Grossmont Union High School District Areas 3, 4, and 5
La Mesa Mayor
La Mesa City Council (2 seats)
Lemon Grove City Council (2 regular four-year seats, and 1 short-term seat)

Our San Diego County Democratic Party will be taking these endorsements up at an upcoming meeting. For our club to have a vote on the party's consideration, we will need to weigh-in before hand.

Hybrid Club Meeting: February 12, 2026

Please join us for our scheduled hybrid club meeting in a couple weeks on Thursday, February 12 at 6:30pm. We've recently been holding our in-person meetings at R Place Bar & Eatery in Hillcrest. Keep in mind that this will be on the second Thursday of the month so that we don't conflict with the beginning of the California Democratic Party's Convention in San Francisco.

We will consider friendly incumbent endorsements for all three San Diego Community College Trustees Maria Nieto Senour, Craig Milgrim, and Geysil Arroyo, as well as San Diego Unified School Board Member Shana Hazan. We'll also consider an endorsement for appointed County Treasurer-Tax Collector Larry Cohen as a friendly incumbent. We also have two Democrats running for Superior Court Judge and will consider endorsements for both judicial offices.

Finally, it's that time again for us to conduct our annual elections for positions on our executive board. All positions are two-year terms unless otherwise stated.

Positions up for election include: President, Vice President for Resource Development, Secretary, North Coastal Area Director, South Area Director, and two (2) At-Large seats.

Should you wish to serve as a member of the executive board, please e-mail our Nomination Committee at [email protected]. Nominees for our executive board must have been dues-paid members for 90 days prior to taking office at our March club meeting.

Freedom Awards: Saturday, February 7, 2026

Our club's Freedom Awards celebration will be held on Saturday, February 7th at Rich's in Hillcrest.

The Freedom Awards serve as the San Diego Democrats for Equality's signature fundraising event. It's where we honor and recognize outstanding club members and LGBTQ+ leaders and allies who have made a significant impact within our club, the Democratic Party, and our communities.

Special Virtual Meeting: Endorsementpalooza Part 2

There will not be a meeting on our regular meeting date this month (Thursday, January 15). However, In lieu of a regular January meeting, please join us for another special virtual meeting for Endorsementpalooza: Part 2 on Sunday, February 1 at 1:00pm on Zoom.

With the June 2, 2026 Primary Election just a few months away, we have a number of statewide races to consider before the California Democratic Party considers these endorsements at the CDP Convention next month in San Francisco.

At this time, we will consider friendly incumbent endorsements for Secretary of State Dr. Shirley Weber, Controller Malia Cohen, and Attorney General Rob Bonta. For all the non-incumbent statewide races, we will consider endorsements for Governor, Lt. Governor, Treasurer, Insurance Commissioner, Superintendent for Public Instruction, and Board of Equalization District 4. Also, we will re-consider Assembly District 74.

Special Virtual Meeting: Pre-Endorsementpalooza!

The California Democratic Party's Pre-Endorsement Conference for congressional and state legislative races will be held on January 17th, and given the aftermath of Prop 50, there is not enough time to consider a bunch of those races we need to endorse in at separate meetings.

So, we've decided to call for a Pre-Endorsementpalooza virtual meeting on Sunday, January 4th at 1:00pm on Zoom.

Since we are covering the CADEM Pre-Endorsement races, we will consider friendly incumbent endorsements for our congressional and state legislative incumbents.

We will also consider endorsements for open seats without incumbents, including Congressional District 48, State Senate District 40, Assembly District 74, and Assembly District 75.

Also, our friends at the San Diego Education Association have endorsed for an open seat for San Diego Unified District C. Since we need to get that endorsement considered prior to the San Diego County Democratic Party's next Metro West meeting, we will finalize that race as well.

2025 Club Holiday Party

Please join us in-person for our club's Holiday Party / Ugly Sweater Party on Thursday, December 18th at 6:00pm.

It will be held in Hillcrest at our recent meeting location: R Place Bar & Eatery at 1027 University Ave.

We are excited to have a number of our fellow Democratic clubs joining us including AAPI Democratic Club, Chula Vista Democratic Club, Clairemont Democratic Club, Latina Democratic Club, San Diego County Young Democrats, Veterans Democratic Club, and our San Diego County Democratic Party!

We will have food platters available, and menus will be available so you can order any additional food or drinks. The good people at R Place have been amazing to work with over the last few months and are very excited to welcome us into their space.

We will have more information about the election results across the country, and we will consider friendly incumbent endorsements for Andrea Beth Damsky for Helix Water District Division 2, Brianna Coston for La Mesa Spring Valley School Board Area 3, and Eric Joyce for Oceanside City Council District 1. We will also consider endorsements for County Supervisor District 5, as well as San Diego City Council Districts 2 and 8 (incumbent City Councilmembers Dr. Jen Campbell and Vivian Moreno are both termed out).

Also, with the passage of Prop 50, we will formally vote to vacate our early endorsement of Senate District 40 since the dynamics of that race changed as a result for next year.

While it's all-hands-on-deck for Prop 50, we can walk and chew gum at the same time. This month, we are going to start considering friendly incumbent endorsements for offices that will be on the June 2026 Primary Election ballot. Our local and state Democratic Party will be weighing in on them in the coming months, as well.

Speaking of Proposition 50, early voting for the statewide special election is already underway! Our local San Diego County Democratic Party is organizing to reach voters throughout the county. If you're looking to get involved in the local effort to pass Prop 50, you can find out more information about the ballot measure, get a yard sign, and/or sign-up to volunteer at sddems.link/prop50

We will welcome and hear from Jeremy Comeau, President of the National Federation of Stonewall Democrats who will update us on the organizing efforts happening with our national umbrella organization. Our club has long been a chartered member of the national network of Stonewall Democratic Clubs.

Also, we will hear from Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, our newly elected Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party, on local organizing efforts for the upcoming November special election to pass Proposition 50.

There will also be a presentation confirmed by Michelle Krug, our club's Vice President of Political Action, for an update on how Trump’s attacks on federal employees is affecting them
