Our Friend, Coyote Moon

Coyote Moon
1954 - 2023

Dear Democrats for Equality,

With a heavy heart, we sadly inform you about the passing this week of Coyote Moon, a longtime member who served on our club's executive board for several years.

She was a trailblazer as much as she was a troublemaker in all the best ways. Uncompromising in her values, not afraid to speak her mind, and fearless in spirit.

In 2020, the San Diego Union-Tribune highlighted her efforts in National City to repeal an anti-crossdressing ordinance that had been in place since the 1960s.

More recently, she helped organizing efforts to repeal the cruising ban ordinance in National City. In spite of her cancer diagnosis, she carried on with an undefeated attitude unmatched by her strength.

A longtime LGBTQ+ activist and volunteer for the San Diego LGBT Center, Moon often led the San Diego Pride Parade on her motorcycle as part of the WomenMoto contingent of lesbian motorcycle riders. She also served as a Trustee of the National City Library's Board of Trustees.

She is survived by loving friends, family, and a community of activists with whom we express our sincere condolences and thoughts.

Her contributions to our LGBTQ+ community through activism and her infectious smile and laughter are deeply missed by so many, especially by her friends and family here at San Diego Democrats for Equality.

May she rest in power.

F*ck cancer.

Sincerely,

Ryan Trabuco (he/him/his)
Club President
